Gabrielle Hoye Announced as 2024 Joyce Ivy Summer Scholar Recipient

The Joyce Ivy Foundation has proudly unveiled its 2024 Summer Scholars, naming sixty-seven exceptional young women from across the Midwest for scholarships to esteemed pre-college academic programs at partner institutions such as Harvard, Yale, and MIT.

Hailing from seven Midwest states, including Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana, these scholars represent 47 diverse secondary schools. This year's Selection Committee, led by Summer Scholar Alumnae Katharine Janes (JIF ‘12) and Abril Rangel Pacheco (JIF ‘13), alongside other distinguished members, faced the challenging task of selecting from a highly competitive pool.

Janes and Pacheco commented, "The outstanding achievements of these young women, from academic prowess to community leadership, truly resonate with the core values of the Joyce Ivy Foundation. We are thrilled to welcome them into our community."

Impressively, 75% of these scholars boast a GPA of 4.0 or higher, with 16 ranking first or second in their respective high school classes. This cohort also showcases diversity, with 64% identifying as women of color. Furthermore, nearly 40% are first-generation college attendees, and over half qualify for the highest level of need-based scholarships.

"We're especially proud to welcome our first scholars from Indiana this year," remarked Brittany Knight, Executive Director of the Joyce Ivy Foundation. "This expansion reflects the Foundation's growth and the generosity of our donors."

Additionally, four scholars will receive special named awards, with details to be announced soon. Five scholars are supported by Minds Matter, a national college preparatory mentoring organization, in collaboration with Minds Matter chapters in Cleveland, Detroit, and Twin Cities.

A unique feature of this year's cohort is the bond of sisterhood, highlighted by two sets of twins and several younger sisters of previous Summer Scholars.

The 2024 Summer Scholars will be celebrated at the 19th Annual Summer Scholars Gala on May 11, 2024, at 6 pm in Lathrup Village, Michigan. The event will feature an address by Kate Trumbull, Joyce Ivy Foundation Leader of the Year and Senior Vice President and Chief Brand Officer of Domino’s. The Gala will also honor climate tech startup founder Anisha Gupta and Detroit restaurateur Ping Ho with Woman of Impact awards.
